Ethiopia’s Olympic and world silver medalist, Lamecha Girma stormed to a magnificent 8:01.63 world-lead in the 3,000m steeplechase to enjoy a four-second victory over his compatriot, Samuel Firewu.
The winner in Xiamen earlier this season, 23-year-old Girma pulled Firewu - the winner in Doha - to a 8:05.78 personal best, as the world junior silver medalist finished almost five seconds clear of the remainder of the field.
In the men’s 100m, Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme followed up his win in Marrakech with a 10.16 (-1.0) clocking.
The 30-year-old - who was third in Oslo a few days ago - pipped the USA’s Kyree King to the top spot, with the Doha and Eugene 200m third-placer registering 10.18.
Eseme said afterwards: ”I just told myself to stick to the guys during the first part of the race, and I am really happy to come back with a second Diamond League victory this season. My season has gone pretty well so far thanks to my training setting in Portugal. Compared to last year I worked on my acceleration part and it paid off. Next up are the African Championships where I want to perform well.”
